Implantation of lenses

A method for vision defect correction for all persons, who may not undergo laser vision correction due to their age, defect size exceeding the capabilities of laser correction surgery (nearsightedness exceeding – 14D and farsightedness exceeding + 6 D) or other absolute counterindications, consists of two types of surgeries involving implantation of phakic intraocular lenses, which effectively correct vision defects:

  • implantation of a phakic lens;
  • removal of a patient’s lens by phacoemulsification method and implantation of phakic intraocular lens (IOL). Patients who want to achieve full near and far vision acuity without the necessity to wear glasses, may benefit from AcrySof® ReSTOR® "Natural" pseudoaccommodative lens. ReSTOR® lens uses the light refraction and diffraction allowing patients to achieve a "pseudoaccommodation" effect, i.e. ability to see objects located in various distances. It imitates the accommodative properties of a healthy human lens. About 80% with ReSTOR® lens implants do not need to use glasses to perform such daily activities as reading, working with a computer, driving a car or practising sports. ReSTOR® lenses must be implanted in both eyes in order to provide satisfactory performance.



AcrySof® lenses are manufactured of patented acrylic and water-resistant material specially designed for the purposes of ophthalmology. Owing to its biocompatibility with eye tissues and good clinging to the lens bag, the material is characterized by the lowest clinically proved percentage of post-operative blurry visions. AcrySof ® ReSTOR® "Natural" apart from a UV filter, also has a blue light filter protecting, similarly to a natural eye lens, the retina against distortions caused by harmful solar radiation. It is entirely made of transparently yellow acrylic and water-resistant material. The chromophore bonded to the lens material filters blue light getting to the retina and, thus, it behaves similarly to a healthy lens in a person around 30. The implantation of "Natural" IOL after cataract removal not only restores vision acuity, but it also ensures protection of the retina throughout the entire life.
